heard there was a girls camp at st. paul. what teams looked good?

Summer Camp is basically an organized practice. Its sad to see people so concerned with how their team is "doing" during summer camp. Parents are the worst, to come to a game and complain about the officiating is down right sad. Unless its an obvious foul where someone gains a distinct advantage, it shouldnt be called during a summer camp. Learn to play a little, learn things do not go your way all the time, its to help condition, allow players to play together and get use to each others game, stay in the basketball flow of things, allow teams to try out new schemes, tweak their old ones, use different rotations, etc. Its not about "how well" you do. Their is no trophy or prize at the end of the week, you arent rated on what you do during the summer, come November, no one remembers (or should anyway) and no one cares what you did in the first week of June. I don't think the 'how doing' was the concern as much as worried that allowing it to be too out of control and that affecting players (injuries) who will matter when the season starts was.

I mean getting in a great flow at the camp won't help you very much if you lose a player or two due to allowing things to be uncontrolled.

It's not quite playground ball, which tended to be everybody from one school playing and just hoopin it up a bit, you do have other schools playing and not counting or not, some tend to get a bit overzealous or have some past issues looking to get a wee bit of revenge and if nobody is there to control it, well, it can get bad.

For example (and I have no idea who is playing, etc), if Wise and PV are matched up and a player from Wise show boated a bit last year or a player from PV was the reason that PV got a win last year, the players there know it, and shoot, while we would like to think memories are short, its amazing how many remember who threw a well placed elbow that caught them just right last year or who scored 25 on them and made them look bad, and if nobody is going to call it, well....

No, people are complaining cause they think its for a championship. Blatant fouls, are called always have been. A missed walk or a double dribble and you hear "Hey Ref he walked" there is no excuse for it. If I were a coach Id make sure that every game I played, we "lost" on the scoreboard if it meant my kids played well, hard and learned from one another. Summer camp is for the adjustment of players, not for seeding or prestige. Im sure 7 on 7 football camps determine the LPD every year.

Summer camps are a hoot around here. I had to listen to my friends from Pound telling me how the Lady Cats were going to beat the Lady Indians because they won a summer camp game over us. The season rolled around and both games were 30+ point blowout wins for JJK. Summer camp is like JV football: Don't bet on it.
